Who Is Homeless?

welfare reform, substance abuse, physical/psychiatric illness, domestic violence,
legal eviction, natrual disasters, deinstitutionalization and relocation.
Demographics/Statistics
Research indicates that approximately 1% of Connecticut's population (30,000
people) become homeless each year. The biggest cause is the absence of affordable
housing units.
Of the 30,000 people in Connecticut who become homeless each year, about 6,000
(20%) are homeless for long periods of time or have repeated episodes of homelessness.
